A recent survey by Robert Walters showed that accountants who received bonuses this year, saw increases of over 10%. According to leading accountancy recruiter Marks Sattin, companies are willing to make good employees, who are thinking of resigning, counter offers of up to 20% above their existing salary. 50% of UK Accountants are now being made counter offers when they announce their departure.

Sectors that are leading the trend, as a result of their accelerating need for qualified and experienced accountants are in media, energy, FMCG and banking. “The biggest salary increases are being offered in retail and investment banks”, says Dave Way, Managing director of Marks Sattin. In London, almost 7 out of ten employees are being offered pay rises in return for their continued loyalty to the company. Levels are also increasing in Paris, Zurich, Amsterdam, and Dubai. “This is the year of the counter-offer”, says Dave.
