Chartered accountants 'have chance for higher wages' Chartered accountants (CAs) looking for more cash or a new challenge are in an excellent position in the current recruitment climate, it has been claimed.

A new study conducted by CA Magazine and reported by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland revealed that 57 per cent of the country's 50 biggest firms are expecting "serious challenges" in recruiting staff.

All of the remainder reported they are expecting some form of difficulty.

Robert Oultram, the editor of CA Magazine, claimed that this situation would be beneficial to CAs but worrying for bosses.

"There is a mismatch between supply and demand and that is making recruitment and retention very challenging," said the expert.

Professionals most in demand were found to be auditors, insolvency experts and those in the financial services sector.

Despite this, a study earlier this year by Accountancy magazine found the number of women made partners in 2007 fell by a third, the Financial Times reported.
