UK accountants see China link-up UK accountants are increasingly finding their excellent skills base in demand in China, it has been claimed.

Michael Izza, the chief executive of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW), said that the rapid growth in the country's economy has spawned a thirst for "top-class" accountants.

This is part of the rationale for his organisation signing a new agreement with the Chinese Institute of Certified Public Accountants (CICPA) that will see co-operation between the two.

Eventually, prior credits could be awarded to ACA or CPA students who have previously been awarded the alternative qualification, as a team has been created to examine the similarities in the two.

Dr Chen, secretary general of the CICPA, commented: "Based on a long-term friendship and good working relationships between the CICPA and the ICAEW, the agreement recognises our mutual understanding in many areas including credits for prior learning."

This is the second international ICAEW deal in recent months, as it announced details of an agreement with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan in August.
