Small to medium-sized businesses (SMBs) are not finding adequate advice and consultancy, according to consultant-news.com.
The website claims that SMBs are relying on "highly fragmented and often unstructured" information when many want reliable and quality guidance in business.
BT Business research found that 85 per cent of SMBs feel they do not get enough government advice.
Rai Meghani, head of Lexmark's Marketing, Printing Services and Solutions Division, said: "When you talk to SMBs, many don't know where to turn to get advice on business and technology."
"They feel they can't afford consultants and rely on word-of-mouth, publications awards and product reviews," he added.
BT Business claims there are 4.5 million SMBs in Britain, employing half the working population and earning 37.2 per cent of the UK's total turnover.
If the government goes ahead with its proposed flat rate of 18 per cent on capital gains tax, many SMBs could lose out and some business owners may see an 80 per cent increase in tax when they retire.
