BCC submits CGT protest letter The British Chambers of Commerce (BCC) is the latest organisation to lobby against the chancellor's proposed flat rate of 18 per cent on capital gains tax (CGT), according to the Telegraph.

For the first time all 56 members of the BCC have signed the letter of protest, urging the government to retain the current ten per cent rate.

The proposed changes will "damage the spirit of entrepreneurship and enterprise" claims the BCC and offers of relief to some companies "does not go far enough".

David Frost, director-general of the BCC, told the newspaper: "We wanted to show the chancellor the real feeling against this from every part of the UK."

The letter is the latest in a series of letters from businesses and organisations protesting against the CGT reforms.

A delay on CGT changes of five years was requested by the Confederation of British Industry and the Institute of Directors proposed a compromised flat rate of 16 per cent.
