Guernsey is being promoted as "the world's premier
offshore location", according to the
Guernsey Press and Star.
The newspaper reports that a new initiative set up by the China-Britain Business Council is sending GuernseyFinance representative Wendy Weng to Shanghai to improve business relationships between the two countries.
One of Ms Weng's main roles will be to ensure that Chinese businesses are aware of the benefits of
Guernsey such as its zero-ten corporate tax system, where the majority of firms pay no corporate tax and a limited number of banking activities are taxed at ten per cent.
"
Guernsey is a great financial centre and has lots of advantages, such as the stock exchange and support from the States that are attractive to Chinese business people," she said.
Peter Niven, chief executive of the firm, claimed that if the scheme is successful, it will be introduced into other emerging markets in the Middle East and eastern Europe.
