Over 5,000 students sat the professional stage exams of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales's (ICAEW) Associate Chartered Accountant (ACA) qualification.

According to the organisation, recent amendments to the exams ensure students are trained with core technical knowledge and skills at the beginning of the training which are then further developed throughout the programme.

Raymond Madden, executive director for Learning and Professional Development at the ICAEW, commented: "I am delighted at the reception our revised ACA structure and syllabus has received amongst students and employers alike."

"This is reflected, not just in the numbers of students taking these exams … but also in their results," he added.

Pass rates included 76.9 per cent for the audit and assurance paper, 77.2 per cent for financial accounting, 75.8 per cent for taxation and finally, 84.7 per cent for financial accounting top up.

The institute explained that under the revised ACA qualification, employers can choose a flexible route through the required modules for their student, meaning workplace training and necessary exam knowledge are in alignment.

In related news, the ICAEW recently entered into an agreement with the Chinese Institute of Certified Public Accountants to award credits to each others qualifications for those who pass appropriate subjects.
