Demand for
accountants looks set to remain strong, according to one industry figure.
Higher-ranking
accountancy jobs such as senior vice-president positions are attractive to applicants and available, notes Simeon Hall, senior consultant with Joslin Rowe.
"Senior roles are often the first to suffer from headcount issues in a bad market but this isn't proving to be the case in the accountancy world," observes the senior consultant.
A recent study by the company found that salaries for senior accountancy jobs in the field of product control within investment banks have risen by between 15 and 20 per cent, with a senior vice-president potentially commanding up to £120,000.
Skills shortages are driving such salary increases, the report suggests, with the market for jobs claimed to be insulated from the fallout from the sub-prime crisis.
In related news, the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales is holding a search for the best chartered accountants in the UK's south-west, according to the Express & Echo.
