Graduate recruitment to be "strong" this year There is to be an increase in graduate recruitment in the majority of industries this year, it has been claimed.

Dan Hawes, co-founder of the Graduate Recruitment Bureau, explained that the manufacturing sector in particular is to offer more office-based roles such as IT and accountancy jobs.

He cites a survey which predicted that graduate vacncies will increase by around 16 per cent this year, adding that the survey was conducted in autumn and therefore will have taken the impact of the credit crunch into account.

"So the signs are strong across the board for this year, although there's usually a lag between what's happening in the economy and what's happening in recruitment," Mr Hawes said.

According to the Association of Graduate Recruiters, job vacancies are expected to increase by 16.4 per cent this year.

The bi-annual survey also found that salaries will grow by an average of 2.1 per cent, bringing the median to £24,000.
