
The
banking and finance industry in the north-west is the fastest growing employer sector, it has been revealed.
A study by Manchester Metropolitan University found that the north-west finance and professional services industry currently employs 428,8000, compared to 315,200 a decade ago.
The region's changing employment environment has meant that "many universities have positioned themselves as business facing and have prioritised higher-skills training," according to Professor John Brooks, vice-chancellor of the education institute.
However, the life sciences industry was found to employ the most people in the north-west, with 455,600 people currently working within the sector.
Banking and finance employment levels in the region is sure to continue to grow, with the creation of over 7,000 new financial vacancies in Liverpool during the next five years.
According to property consultant Knight Frank,
accountancy jobs and other banking roles will help the northern city overcome the impact of the economic slowdown.
