Politician accepts KPMG role Former cabinet minister Charles Clarke has confirmed that he has accepted a consultancy role with KPMG.

Mr Clarke had spells as minister without portfolio, education secretary and home secretary during his five-year stint in the cabinet, but returned to the backbenches in June 2006.

Although still an MP he has taken on three advisory roles with commercial organisations in recent times and has now received the green light from the Advisory Committee on Business Appointments to also begin working for KPMG.

Mr Clarke told the Daily Mail: "They are doing work considering the future reform of public services and have asked me to give them advice. That is all I am prepared to say on the matter."

Meanwhile, PricewaterhouseCoopers (PWC) has made a less high-profile appointment by naming Richard Neave as a director of its forensic services team.

He moves to his new Edinburgh-based role from the firm's assurance practice.
