Paul Taylor of engineering group Aveva has been named
Finance Director of the Year.
His work over the past 12 months was recognised at the Real FD/CBI Finance Directors' Excellence Awards, which are decided by a combination of company performance measures and a panel of judges.
Mr Taylor initially won in the FTSE 250 category - where judges praised his "impressive steering of a company that has reported strong increases in turnover and pre-tax profits" - and was later handed the overall award.
The winner, who is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, joined Aveva from Philips Telecommunications in 1989 and worked his way up to become group finance director and company secretary in 2001.
Hanif Lalani of BT was recognised as the best performer in the FTSE 100 category, with Mike Timmins of Record taking the honours in the Outside the FTSE 350 section after playing a key role in the company's successful listing last year.
Sarah Wood was named Young Finance Director of the Year for her work at Simply Biz, which was recently ranked fourth in the Real Business/LDC Hot 100 league table of the UK's fastest growing private companies.
