Baker Tilly has announced plans to strengthen the tax team at its East Anglia office.

Gareth Watkins, the firm's tax partner, has moved from Baker Tilly's Milton Keynes office to head up the 28-person team, reports the East Anglian Daily Times.

He will work alongside existing partner and head of private client services Jonathan Penn, as well as newly-appointed partner Melanie Orriss, who is now the office's head of business tax.

Baker Tilly, which was named by Accountancy Age as the country's seventh largest accountancy and professional services firm in 2007, has also appointed two other new partners in East Anglia.

Claire Sutherland, a specialist in dealing with manufacturing and construction businesses, has become the office's fifth audit partner.

Joining her in winning promotion is Clare Devlin, who moved to the firm from Deloitte last year to take charge of a specialist team advising entrepreneurs and family-owned businesses.
