Company administration figures drop in Yorkshire

New figures have shown that Yorkshire recorded a drop in company administrations over the first quarter of 2008.

Figures published by Deloitte showed that the number of administrations in the Yorkshire and Humber area fell by more than 13 per cent during the first three months of 2008, reports the Yorkshire Post.

Across the country the property, construction and electrical installation sectors saw a rise in numbers, but manufacturing was nearly 40 per cent lower than at the same stage the previous year.

Ian Brown, reorganisation services partner at Deloitte, told the newspaper that the data shows that it takes time for shifts in the economic cycle to affect profits, administrations and unemployment levels.

"The sectors which are having trouble are obviously property and construction as well as anything which tangents on property. No doubt, in time, retail will be affected by the negative sentiment generated by falling house prices and the fact that people feel less well off," he added.

Retailer Fabric Warehouse, based in Rotherham, recently went into administration.

The business, which traded from 31 stores with a turnover of £25 million, became a victim of the recent credit crunch and Leonard Curtis has been appointed as administrator, reports Retail Week.
