Ernst and Young has appointed a new director for its recently formed insurance team.

Mick Summersgill will move from Zurich Financial Services to take on the role.

He was previously the chief financial officer of Zurich's discontinued operations in the UK, reports Accountancy Age.

Mr Summersgill has previously managed the run-off portfolios of Zurich Specialities London Limited and Eagle Star Insurance Company.

It is reported that Mr Summersgill will use his previous experience of assisting executive officers to restructure and drive forward the new insurance run-off team for Ernst and Young.

Kevin Gill, the lead partner in the insurance run-off team for the firm, told the finance news provider: "Mick joins the team at such an important point in its development. His experience across industry and in practice is invaluable to us and our clients".

Accountancy Age has also reported that John Howell, the former partner of Ernst and Young, will replace Boris Johnson as Tory candidate in the Henley by-election.
