Gender pay divide criticised by TUC A representative from the Trades Union Congress (TUC) has spoken out against the gender pay divide that exists in the UK.

With the split potentially affecting female graduates, Sarah Veal, the head of equality and employment rights at the TUC has voiced her concerns that the divide is not justifiable on ethical grounds.

"It is not ethically justified at all and it certainly isn't the fault of women, but I think that work reflects society and there is still a big lag between cultural expectation and economic realties," said Ms Veal.

Ms Veal noted that female employees face "penalisation" for things that they have no ability to affect or influence.

In related news, Ms Veal has called to encourage companies to better adapt to diverse patterns of working.

With a total of 66 affiliated trade unions, the TUC represents close to seven million employees.
