A new study has found that chartered
accountants who work within a business environment can earn an average salary of £76,200.
The results from the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales' (ICAEW) latest Career Benchmarking Survey found that the average wage for somebody starting out in the profession was £48,600 during the first four post-graduation years.
It is also reported that the average salary for a male was also found to be 50 per cent higher than their female counterparts.
Michael Izza, chief executive of the ICAEW, said that "careful management and leadership" was needed during the credit crunch.
"As our survey shows, ICAEW members are responding to this need, providing the skills and experience that ensure they continue to play a key role within all aspects of business and industry," he added.
Yvette Cooper, chief secretary of the Treasury, recently called on boardroom members to "show restraint" in their pay packet, the Financial Times reported.
