Google appoints new chief financial officer

Google has announced Patrick Pichette as its new chief financial officer.

Mr Pichette will take responsibility for the company's financial operations from August 1st.

His most recent position was at global communications company Bell Canada, where he held the role of president of operations.

Mr Pichette brings with him nearly 20 years of experience in financial operations in the telecommunications sector, including time spent as the chief financial officer for Call-Net Enterprises from 1994 to 1996.

He spoke about the announcement, saying: "Google is a great company with a phenomenal brand and an outstanding management team.

"I've admired the company for many years and am excited about working with my new colleagues in Mountain View and around the world."

In other news, aerospace company BAE Systems has promoted Ian King to the position of chief executive.

Accountancy Age reports that Mr King is moving from his current role of chief operating officer within the company.
