
A chartered accountant has been given the task of managing the great British potato.
Allan Stevenson, a farmer and qualified accountant, has been given the role of the chairman of the Potato Council, accountancyage.com reports.
He will also assume the role of BOARD member on the Agriculure and Horticulture Development BOARD (AHDB).
Mr Stevenson followed into the family farming trade before moving into the finance world working as a marketing director and managing director for various food service companies.
He has recently been group finance director at real estate capital firm EC Harris.
The Potato Council is a subsidiary of the AHDB and works to make the British industry more competitive around the world.
In other news, analyst firm ACNielsen has revealed that beer sales in UK pubs and clubs fell by nine per cent in the first five months of 2008, the Times reports.
