My client, a key player in it's field, is seeking a Financial Controller to join their finance team. Reporting into the Group Finance Director the Financial Controller will be responsible for leading and mentoring the larger finance team, and guiding the business with analysis and insight into their financial performance. This is a business that has grown from a standing start to £75m turnover over the last decade, currently employing over 150 people around the Manchester area.
Key Responsibilities
• Interface between operational teams and the group finance to ensure the highest standards of management reporting.
• Oversee the finance team of 9 (with assistance of the Finance Manager) supporting with day-to-day activities and shaping their development within the organisation.
• Critically evaluate the business's financial performance and proactively bring to management's attention areas of financial or operational inefficiency.
• Take a leading role in ensuring a rigorous control environment is maintained, challenging non-compliance and establishing appropriate solutions where necessary.
• Implement and report on KPI's to measure both operational performance and the efficiency of back office support functions.
• Support the accurate forecasting of the weekly gross margin and provide commercial insight into the root cause of variances.
• Ensure accurate accounting records are maintained at all times and that the balance sheet is correctly reconciled.
• Support key stakeholders in the preparation of the annual budget.
• Support management information system enhancements to ensure information is relevant and timely.
Person Specification
• Qualified accountant (CIMA, ACCA or ACA)
• Ability to prepare management information
• High level of analytical skills
• 4+ years' experience in similar role
• Used to working to tight timescales
• Experienced in making commercial decisions
