Project Financial Controller

London

Our client is an award-winning, privately owned, property acquisition and development management company. Partnering with a variety of investors and highly-regarded architects and consultants, the company is behind some of London’s most prestigious residential and mixed-use development projects.

The company now seeks to employ a Project Financial Controller to provide finance leadership and management to development projects.

You will report to the company Finance Director (FD), and will be the lead finance role in managing complex projects and driving commercial success, supporting the Project Development Manager (PDM). In addition to providing full accounting, reporting, treasury, taxation and controls support to the project, you will need to develop a complete commercial and contractual understanding of the project, and compile and maintain the Project Business Plan.

You will develop key project performance indicators (e.g. hurdle return based Internal Rate of Return), and ensure the PDM and the project team are fully advised of progress against, and of risks to, the plan achievement. You will report regularly to the Board, alongside the PDM, on project performance, and interface, along with the PDM and the FD, with external partners and investors.

You will assist in the negotiation of project contracts, and ensure these are incorporated into and are consistent with the project plan.

This is a highly dynamic role within a small, highly motivated team, which requires more than the traditional Controller skill-set. It requires a high level of commitment, the application of commercial acumen, effective relationship management and communication skills, a willingness to challenge and be challenged, and solid teamwork. At the same time it is highly hands-on and detail-focused.

You will:

  • Hold a CCAB qualification with at least 3 years PQE;
  • Have demonstrably strong control and reporting skills, preferably gained from public practice experience during CCAB qualification;
  • Have experience of planning and working on projects with bottom-line responsibility;
  • Have had exposure to commercial negotiation and preferably also to corporate transactions;
  • Be an effective communicator to varied and senior audiences;
  • Be analytical, detail-focused, and regularly use Excel to an advanced level, with demonstrable experience of financial modelling.
  • Be able to work independently, as part of a small team.
  •

Salary range £70,000 to £90,000, plus competitive annual discretionary bonus based on company performance, pension and benefits.
