FINANCE ANALYSTS (7 POSTS)

Starting salary £31,601 per annum rising to £36,379 per annum

The Finance and Commercialisation Team is a key part of Southampton City Council’s Strategy Hub. The team provide strategic, financial and commercial services and advice to ensure the council’s planning and operational activity is delivered in sustainable and cost-effective ways. We work in collaboration with operational teams and partners to ensure financial and commercial services deliver the agreed outcomes in our medium and long term financial strategies.

You will support senior finance staff in providing strategic financial and technical advice to the organisation.  This may include the provision of business modelling; analysis of financial risk and financial management information in support of strong financial performance; completion of statutory accounts and processes and reconciliations; and the provision of support in relation to the Council’s Client Roles.  You will support the provision of insightful analysis; options appraisals; statutory accounting and corporate planning activity across the whole organisation. It may involve the creation and monitoring of KPIs across financial and performance data supporting operational, tactical and strategic decision making.  You will perform financial analysis and provide technical support communicating a clear position to relevant officers and Budget Holders.

Working as part of the finance team you will play a key role in the discharge of the Director’s Section 151 responsibilities including ensuring statutory and regulatory reporting and compliance by monitoring the performance of budget holders of their financial management duties and compiling monthly performance reports.

What you’ll need to succeed

You will be a full member of the Association of Accounting Technicians or have a recognised equivalent qualification and have experience of working within the Local Government Sector. You must be an advanced Excel user possessing a high degree of systems literacy, be highly analytical and numerate with the ability to communicate complex information to non-experts.
