MEDIUM TERM FINANCIAL STRATEGY AND REVENUES MANAGER

The Finance and Commercialisation Team is a key part of Southampton City Council’s Strategy Hub. The team provide strategic, financial and commercial services and advice to ensure the council’s planning and operational activity is delivered in sustainable and cost-effective ways. We work in collaboration with operational teams and partners to ensure financial and commercial services deliver the agreed outcomes in our medium and long term financial strategies.

You will support and enable the delivery of high quality services to the residents, businesses and visitors to the city of Southampton. This position is a new role to the organisation and will be key in the further development of the medium term financial model working closely with the strategy and business intelligence, analysis of financial risk and dynamic financial management information in support of Service Directors, and underpin strong financial management performance.

Your key focus will be providing strategic and financial decision support in managing the council’s overall medium term financial plans and financial governance. You will manage and motivate a high performing team and deputise for the Service Lead - Corporate Planning and Commercialisation.  You will also manage and motivate a high-performing team of Financial Analysts.

You will play a key part in the production of the annual financial statements including preparation to a shorter timeframe than required.

What you’ll need to succeed

You will be CCAB/CIMA Qualified with 5 years’ experience working within the Local Government Sector. You will need to demonstrate your experience of monitoring revenue budgets and operating in accordance with financial policy including budget setting and statutory requirements. What is essential is a track record in team management covering all aspects including goal setting and performance review. Excellent level of IT literacy is a must.  You will be a responsible individual, possessing excellent communication skills and have a collaborative working style. You will also be approachable and able to manage change.
