The Role

We’re looking for a Capital Accountant to join our Finance Shared Services team within Port Business Services (PBS).

The successful individual will process fixed assets, income and expenses to help PBS to deliver the very best service. They’ll manage our finances effectively and diligently – ensuring we’re in the strongest position to grow.

The key fundamentals below need to be fully understood and applied;

  • Income and expenses processes
  • Post investment appraisals
  • Fixed asset and project reports
  • Budgeting and forecasting processes

Accountabilities

  • Demonstrate a service culture and strong customer service skills
  • Assist with the integration of new employees in to our team
  • Work with record to report to achieve our objectives 
  • Process timely, relevant and accurate capital accounting activities
  • Prepare fixed asset and project reports
  • Calculate post investment appraisals for projects
  • Keep the Record to Report Lead updated on fixed asset, project and WIP issues
  • Retain documents and make available to local audit, as required
  • Be seen, internally, as a point of contact for capital accounting matters 
  • Comply with performance KPI’s
  • Ensure timeliness and accuracy of fixed asset, project and WIP processing
  • Monitor the volume of fixed asset and project transactions
  • Adhere to guidelines and internal controls
  • Understand process context and identify intra process and cross process improvement opportunities
  • Proactively suggest ideas to drive continuous improvement
  • Assist with the transition of activities in to PBS

Skills and Experience

  • Bachelors degree in accounting, finance or related field
  • Accountancy qualification
  • A minimum of three years’ experience in a capital accounting role
  • Sound working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • An ability to forge relationships with a diverse set of colleagues
  • A basic understanding of end-to-end finance processes

Ideal

  • Experience working in a shared service centre
  • SAP experience 
  • Knowledge of the Ports Industry
