An opportunity has become available for a Financial Accounting Manager in a prestigious international development charity.

The International Finance Team provides Country Programmes and the regions with professional and technical finance support and leadership for the organisation's international work.

The primary responsibility of the Financial Accounting Manager is to provide key support to the Head of International Finance in leading the delivery of plans that will ensure there is a robust and effective financial control environment in the organisation's international work.

This role will lead the International Financial Accounting team that supports Heads of Finance in Country Programmes to develop and maintain good financial control environments and to manage key financial risks appropriately. The team will provide an assurance function, accountable for providing evidence that the financial control environment is robust in all country programmes.

This role will work across the finance function and with other stakeholders to review, develop, enhance and embed effective financial processes throughout their international programme portfolio. S/he will understand local context, and thus help the UK office to understand where local deviation from the standard is appropriate and desirable.

This role will have capacity to look across the organisation, proactively identifying trends which highlight areas for improvement or highlighting local examples of innovative solutions that can be shared with others and can be adopted as the standard approach, thus embedding identified best practice.

Essential Experience:

  • Degree level education
  • Professional accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CIPFA)
  • Significant senior financial accounting expertise, experience and knowledge
  • Experience in managing complex finance process analysis, design and improvement initiatives, including defining the approach, structure and operations
  • Experience of leading, managing and motivating others and driving change
  • Experience in initiating, developing and improving financial processes
  • Experience in the use of SUN or other global web based accounting package
  • Advanced MS Excel skills
  • Experience of developing and delivering training for finance and non-finance people
  • Experience of working effectively in different cultures, preferably gained in an International Development Organisation
