Chief Auditor
St Helena, South Atlantic

3-year full-time contract commencing September 2017

Competitive salary at £70,000 plus expatriate benefits including accommodation allowance relocation assistance and fare paid leave.

St Helena Government offers an extraordinary opportunity for a qualified accountant with significant external audit experience to be appointed as statutory external auditor for St Helena.  This demanding but rewarding role will require professional leadership in financial and performance audit and can make a major contribution to public accountability at a key time in the economic development of the Island.

A sub-tropical island of spectacular and beautiful landscapes in the South Atlantic with a warm and friendly population of 4,000, St Helena is a self-governing UK Overseas Territory, poised for transformation with the opening of the international airport to scheduled air services.

The Chief Auditor holds a constitutional office independent of Government.  As the statutory external auditor the Chief Auditor is responsible for providing independent assurance on whether public resources are used and accounted for properly, promoting public accountability in the administration of St Helena, providing advice to the Public Accounts Committee, and conducting performance audits.

As a qualified professional you will have significant engagement leadership experience delivering ISA compliant external audits ideally in a public sector environment and managing assurance or consulting assignments.  You will also have excellent communication and relationship management skills with the ability to develop trust and confidence with stakeholders and promote improvement in public accountability and governance.

We offer an extensive benefits package with 30 days annual leave, fare-paid return travel, contribution to pension, plus tax-free allowances for relocation and accommodation.
