Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust (GOSH) is a national centre of excellence in the provision of specialist children's health care, currently delivering the widest range of specialist care of any children's hospital in the UK. It is the only specialist Biomedical Research Centre for paediatrics, the largest centre in the UK for children and young people with heart or brain problems, and the largest centre in Europe for children and young people with cancer. It works in partnership with the UCL Institute of Child Health (ICH), part of University College London, and together they form the largest paediatric research and teaching centre in the UK.

The hospital receives over 255,000 patient visits (inpatient admissions or outpatient appointments) a year, and carries our approximately 18,800 operations each year and has approximately 50 paediatric specialities, the widest range of any hospital in the UK.

Detailed Job Description

  • To lead and be responsible for the production of the monthly financial information for a range of Trust wide, Clinical and Corporate Reports.
  • To lead on the production of the Long Term Financial Model
  • To translate the Trusts strategy into financial models incorporating scenario modelling, national assumptions and model flexibility.
  • To provide exert technical advice to the department on systems, software and analytics.
  • To provide and complete key information for the Trust including national monthly returns, Annual returns, Board reporting and adhoc regulator requests.
  • To provide analytics on the Trusts financial position and workforce information for the front line teams, Trust Senior Management and the Finance teams.
  • To provide expert modelling advice and training to the Finance Department and wider stakeholders as required.
  • To challenge Finance Managers on Board Report and Performance Review content. Ensuring accurate information and analysis is being provided.
  • To analyse income and expenditure variances to plan and trend to help inform knowledge of the financial position and to communicate this to senior finance staff, clinical unit / corporate department managers and clinicians, and to executive team members.
  • To work with Business Partners to ensure robust forecasts are prepared for the Clinical and Corporate units. To ensure that these are summarised and report on these to the senior finance team.
  • To produce monthly and quarterly information on the financial performance of the Trust.
  • To lead on the modelling of Business cases and Capital projects.
  • To prepare models for use by the finance team and ensure training in their use.
  • To lead on the implementation, design and roll out of new systems and software including the writing of policies and procedures.
  • To support the clinical unit / corporate managers and clinicians in understanding their financial position and the emerging trends from this information.
  • To be a key member of the finance management teams, contributing to short, medium and long-term strategy taking the lead role in communicating highly complex and technical financial issues
  • To contribute to the production and maintenance of the Trust's financial plan.
  • To provide support during the development of the annual planning and budgeting process including responsibility for the budgeting software, working with various stakeholders and Business Partners to consolidate divisional budgets and reconciliation of budget with the organisational goals
  • To input to the development and direction of the Financial Management team.
  • To identify opportunities for improvement and enhancement within financial processes and to lead on the implementation of required changes.
  • To carry out any other regular and ad hoc tasks as required by the Deputy Head of Financial Management, Head of Financial Management and Deputy Chief Finance officer

Candidate's Profile

The successful finance analyst will be qualified in either ACA, CIMA, ACCA or CIPFA. They will also hold the following skills:

  • Advanced Excel Skills
  • Advanced complex financial modelling
  • Excellent communication skills
  • The ability to present financial information
  • Good knowledge of financial systems (preferably business objects)
