Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust (GOSH) is a national centre of excellence in the provision of specialist children's health care, currently delivering the widest range of specialist care of any children's hospital in the UK. It is the only specialist Biomedical Research Centre for paediatrics, the largest centre in the UK for children and young people with heart or brain problems, and the largest centre in Europe for children and young people with cancer. It works in partnership with the UCL Institute of Child Health (ICH), part of University College London, and together they form the largest paediatric research and teaching centre in the UK.

The hospital receives over 255,000 patient visits (inpatient admissions or outpatient appointments) a year, and carries our approximately 18,800 operations each year and has approximately 50 paediatric specialities, the widest range of any hospital in the UK.

Detailed Job Description

The key responsibilities for the Deputy Head of Financial Management Include:

  • To lead the Planning and Reporting team to ensure that work streams and programmes are planned and carried out effectively. 
  • Be responsible for leading the annual planning and budgeting cycle, aligning annual plans with external targets and plans set.
  • Lead on the production of the Long Term Financial model in conjunction with the Trusts strategic development writing the trust wide policies and procedures for its development and use across the Trust. 
  • Be responsible for supporting business & strategic trust decisions through the preparation of timely and accurate variable forecasts, incorporating business intelligence and forecast information gathered from the business partners. Deputise for the Head of Financial Management during the month end and year end process, including providing support to the Financial Management team, Deputy CFO and CFO.
  • Work closely with Business Partners in Finance and across the other corporate functions to ensure comprehensive support is given to the senior management within the division and to the other business partners and executives. 
  • To manage and develop Finance staff within the team, providing leadership as well as the setting of appropriate objectives.
  • To identify opportunities for information or quality improvements within the wider Financial Management team, supporting the Head of Financial Management to ensure every opportunity is taken to develop and enhance the provision of an expert Financial Management service to the Trust. 
  • To identify and lead on strategic changes to the Financial Management department that improves the support given to the Trust and improves the working lives of the department's staff.

Candidate's Profile

The successful Deputy Head of Financial Management must be qualified in either ACA, ACCA, CIMA or CCAB and must obtain the following skills:

  • Significant financial management experience at a senior level
  • Staff management experience
  • The ability to present highly complex financial and non-financial information
  • Complex financial modelling
  • Financial analysis and forecast
  • The ability to work under pressure and plan/prioritise workload
