Assistant Financial Accountant
If you are a qualified or near qualified finance professional with a desire to develop your career in financial accounting then this is a fantastic opportunity to join the St Mungo’s Finance team in the newly created role of Assistant Financial Accountant.
As the Assistant Financial Accountant, you will report to and work closely with the Financial Accountant to perform core financial activities of St Mungo’s. This opportunity would be perfect for a newly qualified accountant who is interested in gaining practical experience in the day to day workings of a public sector finance team that prides itself on transparency and responding to the organisation’s business needs.
Specific responsibilities will include:
- To be responsible for the accurate preparation, calculation and reporting of payroll, administrative fixed assets, VAT, Corporation Tax and fundraised income.
- Administration of insurance claims through our third party insurance brokers.
- Preparing the subsidiary monthly management accounts and annual statutory accounts.
- Supporting the administration of our Finance System.
St Mungo’s provides a bed and support to more than 2,500 people a night who are either homeless or at risk, and works to prevent homelessness, helping about 25,000 people a year. St Mungo’s believe no one should be homeless and that people can – and do – recover from the issues that create homelessness. St Mungo's support men and women through more than 200 projects including emergency hostel and supportive housing projects, advice services and specialist physical health, mental health, skills and work services. Your work will make a real and valuable difference to the organisation.
This is a new role within the organisation and to be successful you will need to be able to demonstrate an aptitude to learn new systems and processes quickly and to apply them. You will be qualified or near qualified accountant with CCAB body with strong business reporting and partnering capabilities that can be evidenced through previous experience. Alongside this you will have first-rate analytical skills and the ability to present and discuss financial information with senior stakeholders in an engaging manner. You will also be happy working under pressure and to tight deadlines.
Previous experience of working for a housing association or charity is not necessary; applications from all sectors are welcomed.
