Your new company
The Marine Stewardship Council is an international non-profit organisation established to address the problem of unsustainable fishing and safeguard seafood supplies for the future. MSC wants to transform the global seafood market by recognising and rewarding sustainable fishing practices and influencing the choices people make when buying seafood. In little more than 20 years, MSC has achieved a truly global presence, affecting positive, ecological change in oceans and providing certified sustainable seafood in more than 100 countries, across all five continents.
Your new role
This is a newly created role, established to meet the continued growth of the MSC in recent years. You will report into the Finance Director and manage a team of 3. You will be responsible for maintaining the day to day running of the charitable arm of this international, £20m income organisation. This will include management accounting, budget oversight and forecasting, as well as leading on the production of group consolidated accounts and liaison with external auditors for the annual audit.
MSC is a global charity with subsidiaries around the world. Each of these subsidiaries produce their own accounts and these are consolidated by the central Finance team. The Financial Controller will build relationships with staff in these overseas offices and will ensure that cohesive and appropriate finance policies and procedures are being followed. The Financial Controller will also provide support to the MSC’s Fundraising team in relation to various projects, fundraising proposals and donor reporting requirements, to ensure that the MSC is able to work effectively with its charitable donors.
This role provides a great opportunity for the right individual to make a significant contribution towards the delivery of MSC’s mission.
What you'll need to succeed
You will be a qualified accountant with a common-sense approach to your work and the desire to advance your career to the next level. Experience within the charity sector, including exposure to SORP and an understanding of restricted and unrestricted funding, would also be beneficial. You will be hardworking and personable, with the ability and gravitas to liaise with internal and external stakeholders of all levels and in various countries, and an interest in MSC’s mission and vision.
