Seymour John have been retained to conduct the search for a Financial Controller of a newly divested health care business.  This is an exciting time to join the business as it separates from the parent organisation to embark on ambitious growth plans.  A unique opportunity to be part of a business with huge potential and play a key role in building both the financial systems and the wider support function.

The Role:

As the first in-house finance hire, you will have an autonomous role reporting to the CEO and Chairman. There will be support available from the previous parent organisation to assist with day to day finance, payroll, HR and IT functions in the initial period but this is an excellent opportunity to stamp your mark and develop your own systems, financial processes and controls.  To begin with, the role will be ‘hands on’ processing transactions, delivering clear management information, supporting on corporate governance and ensuring a robust system of controls are in operation.  The potential to develop financial systems and controls from the start will be significant and there is scope to grow the team in the next 12 months. Key responsibilities include:

  • Taking ownership for monthly reporting including preparation of board packs.
  • Producing accurate and timely management information including sales reporting and KPI analysis.
  • Leading on cashflow management with clear forecasting for senior management.
  • Supporting the Board as required in areas such as funding, business plan preparation, business case appraisals.
  • Developing and improving the controls framework and processes across the business.
  • Acting as the lead on statutory and stakeholder reporting and being the key point of contact to the auditors and tax advisors and completing the quarterly VAT returns.

Skills & Experience:

  • Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA) with a proven track record in a commercial environment.
  • Strong technical accounting skills and comfortable taking a ‘hands on’ approach.
  • Experienced in controls and process development with a clear understanding of best practice.
  • Confidence and tenacity to deal with the ambiguity of a start-up environment.
  • Ambition and leadership skills to develop into the Finance Director role.
  • Able to keep sight of the big picture whilst still maintaining control of day to day detail.
  • IT system development and understanding desirable.
