Does setting up an Internal Audit Function sound like a fantastic career challenge?  Unusually for a $bn business, this is an element of the corporate centre that has yet to be established.  As such, you will get a fabulous opportunity to fully realise your expertise by defining and creating the function within the Group as a whole.

As a business minded auditor, you will be required to report findings to the COO and the Board with the main line of responsibility going into the Control function.  This will involve extensive liaison with a wide range of functions across the operational side of the Group, MD’s, Finance, Commercial teams, Project Leads, IT and functional managers.

The Group retains a Global reach and as such, the footprint would allow occasional international travel or a potentially enlarging functionality – in any event creating a single platform for a commercial and well executed plan and process is a given.  The initial focus will be UK operations and as many of these are located in the main conurbations, it is envisaged that 2.5 days a week will be based in London with 2.5 days a week in other key locations and centres across the UK.

Key areas of focus:

  • Create and agree a framework plan to review and report on controls, processes and risk across the operational segments of the business;
  • Develop a schedule and working document that will be supported by the main sponsor;
  • Report key findings to the Board and functional leaders, ensuring that recommendations are enacted by the business;
  • Develop mechanisms across finance to fully support and implement best practice;
  • Influence leaders across the Group in a collaborative manner to create a partnership, a supportive and open based function;
  • Establish the annual audit plan;
  • Drive commercial effectiveness across the groups commercial activities, this will involve taking a retrospective view on whether savings could have been made and whether best practice has been rolled out to areas that would benefit;
  • Interact with external auditors.

What defines the successful candidate?  Qualification is less important, but you will have proven your abilities in audit and have demonstrable expertise of working with operational and commercial teams in a medium to large enterprise.  Delivery and responsibility are things you enjoy and are most likely at a stage where you are looking for a leadership challenge.

Interested candidates should send their CV to Josh Edmunds. I will be contacting candidates with the closest match to the client’s selection criteria within 10 days of application to arrange an initial meeting. If you have not heard from me within these timescales, thank you for your interest but please consider your application unsuccessful on this occasion.
