Divisional Financial Controller | Private Equity-backed | Highly Acquisitive & Rapidly Growing | Business Process Outsourcing Sector | Financial Accounting, Reporting & Control Team | Management Accounts Team | Management Reporting & Senior Stakeholder Partnering | Decision Support

Axon Moore is representing a rapidly growing, £300m t/o, private equity-backed, mid-market outsourcer as they look to appoint a Divisional Financial Controller, to take full financial responsibility for one of the businesses two divisions (£160m).

The successful candidate will be required to provide oversight on all areas of finance from managing the finance team (10 FTEs). Whilst the role will have overall responsibility for financial management of the business’s largest division, the key deliverables of the role are to partner with senior decision makers, manage a high calibre finance team and develop the commercial finance capability of the business.

There is a need to develop and reposition finance as the business rapidly scales, developing standardised corporate reporting, insightful management information, valued business partnering and commercial analysis in an increasingly complex business.

Reporting directly into the Group Financial Controller, whilst working closely with a high calibre Operational team, there will be a huge amount of variety due to the dynamic and acquisitive nature of the business. However, core responsibilities will include:

  • Providing commercial support for business decisions and new business opportunities
  • Providing performance analysis to support business decision making
  • Ensuring business stakeholders understand performance metrics on their respective business areas
  • Continually review business performance in conjunction with the economic environment and competitors
  • Strategy and planning
  • Business performance management and measurement
  • Promoting financial understanding and control within the business, championing best practice
  • Working with the business to ensure financial performance measurement and financial controls are embedded in the business
  • Management and improvement of weekly and daily cash flow forecasting and analysis
  • Overseeing the team of management accountants that prepare c.90 individual P&L accounts
  • Overseeing the financial accountant’s production of periodic accounts, managing both the Profit and Loss Account and Balance Sheet
  • Reviewing period and YTD financial performance with senior stakeholders
  • Presentation of monthly management accounts to senior stakeholders
  • Assist with the budget process, working closely with the Group FP&A team
  • Primary point of contact for divisional audit
  • Assisting with integration projects and adoption of group policies
  • Representing finance on any future projects planned
  • Assisting with ad-hoc group tasks as required

Successful candidates should be technically strong, qualified accountants with broad exposure across reporting roles, ideally as an FC, with a focus on value creation. Whilst technical skills are important, equally important is that the successful candidate is a self-starter that can drive change, is able to challenge established wisdoms, can build strong relationships, is able to contribute to the senior leadership team and can drive improvements that ultimately create shareholder value.
