Your new company
This Local Authority in the region has a new opportunity for a qualified accountant with local government experience, to join them as a Principal Accountant. This is an excellent chance to work closely with the Head of Finance in all statutory requirements for the organisation.
Your new role
You will be expected to provide an effective financial accounting service, guiding and managing the the activities of your team, in accordance with relevant statutory requirements You will be responsible for managing and motivating your team to ensure effective delivery of services on time and within budget.
Key deliverables include:
- Manage and undertake the preparation of the statements of accounts for the council, ensuring that statutory and audit requirements are fully met.
- Account for capital ensuring effective financing and accounting for capital expenditure.
- To lead on Business Rates Retention and Collection Fund accounting, and forecasting of Non-Domestic Rates and Council Tax for the budget strategy and financial budgets
- To maintain and develop financial aspects of the Council's Fixed Assets Register
- To liaise with the External Audit Manager to ensure that the audit of these statements of accounts are supported through the provision of accurate, well-presented and timely information
What you'll need to succeed
You must be a qualified accountant - CIPFA, ACCA, ACA or CIMA and have experience working in a local government environment, ideally within a Financial Services team. Ideally have experience in statutory accounts capital and fixed assets.
You should also have some experience in managing or mentoring staff within a team, and have good communication skills.
