Group Accountant / Financial Controller

Leading Commodity Trading company based in the City of London is looking for an experienced and qualified accountant to join their finance team as a Group Accountant / Financial Controller.

The successful candidate will be one of 4 Financial Controllers reporting to the Head of Corporate Accounts in a Finance team of 15, and will over see the work on one junior accountant and 2 treasury assistants.

Purpose of Position

To manage group reporting on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis. Contributing to meeting compliance requirements and smooth running of corporate accounting department.

Tasks & Responsibilities

• Oversee consolidation of thirteen entities to
  • Prepare monthly board management accounts
  • Prepare quarterly board pack
  • Prepare annual financial statements
• Contribution to maintenance of full trial balance of a dynamic trading entity
  • Oversight of global overheads
  • Oversight of VAT monthly reporting requirements
  • Preparation of monthly accruals and collation of global accruals
  • Prepayment oversight and maintenance
• Interaction with international finance controllers/accountants
• Monthly variance analysis with commentary
• Assist treasury staff and junior accountants
• Liaising with accountants in other regions on tax, reporting, transfer pricing, VAT etc
• Annual budget requirements for overheads and review of subsidiary overhead budgets
• Lead or contribute heavily during annual audit from engagement through sign off

Person Specification:

• ACA, ACCA, CIMA (or equivalent) qualified with some solid post-qual experience
• The preferred candidate must have some post qualified Industry experience, although they may have initially qualified in either Industry or Practice
• Exposure to multi-currency entities highly desirable
• Candidate must possess sound technical accounting experience and understanding
• Ability to form relationships within finance team, net revenue desk and wider office to ensure positive collaborative working environment
• Ability to manage numerous requirements and prioritising critical, along with keeping relevant stakeholders well informed on tasks
• Strong general computer/IT and system skills - SUN system experience desirable but not essential
• Advanced excel skills
• Excellent communication skills to facilitate relationships with key internal business partners
• Forward thinking individual who can assist the finance team develop our processes to automate and systemise as much as possible
• Individual should be results driven, taking responsibility for requirements and ensuring these are met
• Resilient to pressure
• Ability to problem solve independently and as part of a team
