Head of Finance

This role will be a pivotal role for the Westgate team and its future growth plans. The Head of Finance will take responsibility for the day to running of a small finance team to include management accounts, credit control, sales ledger, purchase ledger and payroll. The Head of Finance will liaise with the Company Care Homes, assisting them and guiding them in dealing with financial affairs, such as fee negotiations, staff costing, budget control, purchase invoices and general finance management in the Home.

It has more than 20 years' experience in successfully providing the care and support that elderly service users require. Currently they operate eight care homes with a variety of care services.

Detailed Job Description

This role will work alongside and support the Board, providing them with accurate and timely information in order to aid decision making and drive the business strategy and growth into the future.

Your primary responsibilities

  • Take charge of all finance functions for Wetgate Healthcare and its subsidiaries, in conjunction with support from the Finance Team, and report to the Board of Directors. Be hands on in this approach
  • Establish and monitor the implementation and maintenance of accounting control procedures in compliance with accepted policies and procedures
  • Prepare and review financial reporting on all subsidiaries, inter-Company account reconciliations and consolidation of all Company accounts to produce Group level financial accounts
  • Preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual management accounts and associated reports for each subsidiary Company and the overall Group, ensuring that internal and external deadlines are met
  • Cash flow forecasting, analysis and management
  • Oversee and manage sales ledger and credit control, and assist Home Administrators where needed in chasing poor debts
  • Oversee and manage payroll and contact with HMRC
  • Oversee and manage purchase ledger department and invoice control
  • Preparation of Statutory accounts and audit files, and liaise with external auditors
  • Liaise, in conjunction with Finance Director, with banks regarding loans, credit facilities, banking facilities, and associated covenants and KPIs
  • Preparation and presentation of information required by banks, such as KPIs, monthly fee and occupancy reports and quarterly financial and budget reports
  • Variance analysis of cost centres and margin analysis. Suggest and lead improvements resulting from this

Candidate's Profile

We are looking for:

You will be a qualified Accountant with a solid track record of senior roles within finance and team management. You will have a collaborative and mature outlook and be comfortable working with the home managers onsite in the homes and managing the Board relationship. You will be adept in developing and mentoring a team to a high achieving standard whilst promoting a positive and collaborative working environment. You will have strong reporting skills and proven ability to deliver under tight deadlines and balance multiple objectives. Above all, you will be an experienced and ‘hands on' Controller that can demonstrate you work to high level of accuracy and are deadline orientated, whilst having the commercial awareness and interest in the business to work with the Directors and external parties to drive future growth and improvements. Strong interpersonal, presentation and communication skills are essential for this small owner managed business, as is the ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with staff at all levels. Previous experience of working within a similar business is advantageous although not essential.
