The role of Finance Business Partner
As Finance Business Partner, you’ll look after two of our directorates: Protocol and IT. Protocol includes funding for international events, such as the NATO summit and the upcoming Commonwealth Heads of Government Conference, while the IT directorate is presently undergoing a major technology overhaul programme. The team provides a business partner function to all FCO Geographic and Operations Directorates. Business Partners work flexibly between Directorates so the job holder will receive broad exposure to FCO business. The skills required are transferable therefore the Directorates you cover could change based on your experience and on business need.
You’ll provide both a support and challenge function to ensure each directorate is bidding and forecasting for the most probable resource requirements, while delivering on as many of their objectives as possible within the available budget. You’ll drive better decision making across the FCO by influencing, analysing and challenging budget, risk and forecast. You will be key in leading Directorates to prepare their future year financial and business plans.
You’ll Review and assist in the preparation of business cases originating from Directorates ahead of internal and external senior approval forum. Ensure business cases identify how project associated costs will score against the HMT budgetary framework and provide a view as to whether funds are available. You will provide a view on the wider strategic, economic, commercial and management aspects of business cases. You will provide recommendations on how activity can be reprioritised to make it affordable.

CCAB qualified, you’ll have strong experience in a similar role and be committed to improving processes and procedures for the better. An inspirational and engaging leader, you’ll be capable of effectively delegating work and projects across your team, as well as developing their talent and capabilities. Flexible, adaptable and resilient, you’ll have exceptional communication and organisational skills. A talent for business analysis and experience using and manipulating data to produce products, is essential.
