National Oceanography Centre

Associate Director, Business Transformation and Finance

c.£70,000

Southampton

The National Oceanography Centre (NOC) is the UK’s national marine research organisation, and part of the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC).  It delivers marine science and technology from the coast to the deep ocean and is one of the top five institutions of its kind in the world. NOC uses scientific research and development of new technologies to tackle the biggest scientific questions about the marine environment, and to understand how future changes to our oceans will impact human life.

This appointment is a new role within NOC, and an exciting opportunity to be involved with a major programme of strategic and organisational change.  NOC is currently developing a strategy refresh which will support further income diversification and reflect the potential for NOC to change its governance to become a company limited by guarantee with charitable status.  The Associate Director will be fully involved in the strategy refresh, and will write the full business plan as well as working closely with the COO to deliver a framework for business change across the whole organisation.

The successful candidate will be proactive, resilient and adaptable.  Comfortable with ambiguity, and in taking the initiative, they will be outcome-focussed and able to lead, develop and inspire multidisciplinary teams.  They will combine analytical and interpersonal skills, with a track record of delivering projects and programmes in a scientific or other professional environment.  A recognised accountancy qualification is essential.

The appointment will be made for a fixed term of 2-3 years, in discussion with the successful candidate.  Applications on a secondment or flexible working basis are welcomed.
