Are you a high calibre and commercially focused finance professional who has experience working closely with key stakeholders across an organisation? If you are a qualified Financial professional (ACA/ACCA/CIMA) who has demonstrable experience of successfully leading a team, providing commercial and operational support and operating as part of a senior management team, then Elevation Senior Finance would like to hear from you.

Working on behalf of Sheffield Hallam Student Union, Elevation Senior Finance are retained partners in the search for a Director of Resources, to add value as a key part of the senior management team and report directly into the CEO.

Sheffield Hallam Students' Union (SHSU) is a registered charity with £2 income and 67 full-time staff. It is part of one of the largest University's in the UK - Sheffield Hallam University. With almost 35,000 students who are automatically members of the Students' Union, it provides the representative channel between students, the University and other stakeholders and works in partnership to improve the student experience.

A fundamental part of its' purpose is to provide support for students through services such as its Student Advice Centre, and opportunities for social and skills development through well-established activities such as volunteering, societies, events, and commercial activities.

The Director of Resources is a pivotal position within the organisation and an integral part of the senior leadership team. The post holder will be relied upon to lead the development of effective financial, operational and commercial services, with an emphasis on improving the profitability of existing commercial services and developing new commercial opportunities, as well as audit the level of legal compliance across the organisation.

The successful candidate will need to contribute to the strategic development of the organisation, have a proven track record and demonstrable examples of driving performance, articulating financial information to non-financial staff and providing insight/opinion on commercial strategy to ensure that all opportunities are maximised to their full potential.
Reporting directly to the CEO, this high profile role will also have regular interaction with the SHSU Trustee Board and the University Chief Finance and Planning Officer and will be required to form close working relationships with the Student Union Officers who are the elected leaders of the organisation.

We will consider a range of candidates to take up this broad ranging Director of Resources position and we are open to both an ambitious Financial Controller ready for the next step in their career or an established Finance Director who is looking to join a forward thinking and growing charity. Due to the variety within the role, it is essential that all applicants have a track record in supporting operational management.

Applicants will need to have a strong technical background and be able to demonstrate recent hands-on experience of completing the above duties. In addition, my client is looking for a confident and clear communicator who can interact effectively with operational staff and the Leadership/Executive Board Team. This role is a rare and exciting opportunity and will give the successful applicant the opportunity to truly make a difference as a key part of this charity organisation at an exciting stage in its life cycle.

Please note Elevation Accountancy and Finance have been retained to deliver this assignment.
