Investment Appraisal Analyst

Based in Luton, Bedfordshire, our Retail client is looking for a qualified accountant to join their team in a 6 month interim assignment Investment Appraisal Analyst for an exciting part of their business.

This job would suit a qualified accountant (ACMA, ACCA, ACA) with a strong academic record to be responsible for acting as the overall lead for financial support for the development and innovation of new concepts within the division.

This company is a leading employer in the area with a proven track record of developing new brands, business models and ideas. As market leaders they continue to push the boundaries with new products to give their customers refreshingly new experiences so this position is vital in the ongoing planning and appraisal of these new products. This role sits in a key business unit reporting directly to the Head of Finance providing investment appraisal support on new possible innovations.

The successful individual will be an ACA, CIMA or ACCA qualified accountant with a strong business partnering track record working with key stakeholders and building financial models to understand possible investment evaluations and return on investment (ROI) of existing projects. This interim will come from a thoroughbred business partnering or commercial finance background within a large corporate environment where they have been experts in this field rather than an all-rounder with some commercial skills. Strong communication skills are essential in being able to influence financial and non-financial colleagues at all levels.

Duties will include:

  • Site level P&L budgeting for the respective brands
  • Insight and challenge on underlying drivers of brand and site level performance
  • Production of financial action plans to support the operations team deliver within budget
  • Challenge of investment and operating cost assumptions to improve future returns
  • Financial control over projects overhead costs - budget, monthly review and challenge, capitalisation approach
  • Investment evaluations and business case production
  • Design of post investment evaluation criteria
  • Own the modelling assumptions for the brands ensuring these are reflected across conversions and new site appraisals
  • Tracking and forecasting of capital spend for the respective projects
