This is a well established Public Sector Business looking for a Chief Accountant to join their well established business.

Your new role

This is an exciting opportunity to join the council on a contract or permanent basis
, you will intimately be responsible for effective management and professional responsibility for the Financial Services Team. You will be reporting into the Head Of Financial Services and oversee the finance team, consisting of part qualified and transactional staff members. You will be supporting the Chief Financial Officer to identify risks and other opportunities around enabling the delivery of priorities within the council plan.

You will provide advice and support on technical accounting issues and support the review and quality assurance processes undertaken in the Finance area (e. for the Statement of Accounts). You will be support the Financial Services Manager in producing the Financial Services Annual Report Timetable and to communicate the deadlines and prepare the reports with given deadlines. You will be responsible for leading the delivery of the corporate service budgets, which reflect the needs and priorities, agreed as set out in the Corporate Plan over a rolling five-year period, within the overall resources available. To lead the preparation of regular reporting of actual expenditure and income against the approved budgets. You will be ensuring that control is maintained over the approved Council Budgets and that any change is authorised and reported. Monitoring of the reporting and actions required enabling the Council to deliver services within the annual Revenue and Capital budgets. Developing methods to enable the Council to achieve efficiency and ensure value for money.
Maintain and develop professional awareness of the changing legislation and guidance in the field of local government finance. Effectively manage service expenditure within the approved budget change and plan for future years expenditure levels whilst seeking more efficient methods of working and better value for money. To ensure compliance with Finance Strategy, Policies and Procedures. You be responsible for the ensuring the final accounts process meets the relevant legislative and code of practice requirements and procedures within the timescales required. To review the final accounts process and plan for changes that will deliver continuous improvements.

What you'll need to succeed

You will ideally be CIPFA Qualified or Have Public Sector Accounting experience and looking for an opportunity to manage a well established team of part qualified and transactional staff. You will demonstrate attention to detail and a history of meeting deadlines and working within Budgets.
