As a senior finance professional you'll be looking for a role that enables you to have a wide impact on all the mechanisms that drive a business rather than just focusing on Reporting. If anything, this role will see you move away from pure Reporting to maximise your skills and capabilities in business management, strategic planning and operational performance.
My client, a well-known transport company with a multinational footprint and extensive UK coverage, that turns over circa £1bn in the UK, is going through some exciting transformation and is reshaping Finance and adding a dedicated Business Partnering team.
In the role of Senior Financial Business Partner you will be based out of Leeds and report into the Commercial Finance Director, as well as building and managing key stakeholder relationships with commercial and operational leaders in a variety of operating companies throughout the North/North West. No one day will be the same as another based on the challenges and ambitions the business has currently, but also in the future.
Key responsibilities are as follows (but may not be limited to):
- Drive the financial capability of OpCo SLT teams by providing an appropriate level of oversight, coaching and hands on involvement.
- Challenge OpCo SLT teams to ensure robust strategic decisions are made with the support of strong financial analysis including but not limited to capex business cases, fare proposals, multi-operator scheme, network changes, pay awards, tender/contract bids and marketing plans.
- Support MDs with scenario planning for pay awards negotiations.
- Provide independent insight to the Group Executive team.
- Ensure changes to Finance IT systems are embedded, OpCo SLT teams understand the changes and the data available, and maximise the opportunities to automate processes.
- Influence decisions through provision of analytical insight into key decisions. Identifying opportunities to maximise profitability and cash generation through benchmarking, both internal and external.
- Work closely with colleagues to ensure seamless financial processes covering planning, reporting and governance.
- Challenge the OpCos and divisional functions to eliminate manual effort and non-standard process.
- Collaborate with OpCo SLTs and divisional functions to identify and document risks and opportunities to business performance.
As a senior finance professional you will currently be in a customer-oriented role where you will be facing off to other finance leaders, but also to senior operational and commercial leaders, on a regular basis. You should be familiar with supporting the commercials of the business and acting as a strategic partner to the SLT, guiding and mentoring senior managers/directors through key decision-making processes. Given this is a multi-site role candidates should be mobile, however, they will manage their own diaries and receive high levels of autonomy.
You will be a fully qualified accountant (CCAB recognised) with a proven track record of working with, and influencing, senior leaders through diligent business analysis, excellent communication skills and with a focus on operational excellence.
Any sector experience would be valuable as long as the suitable candidate can demonstrate the above competencies and the correct attitudes and behaviours.
In return for your efforts you will receive a salary of between £70000 and 80000 with a bonus, pension, free travel and healthcare.
