Head of Tax

Salary: £90,000 - £100,000 + Bonus

Location: Brighton 

This varied position is responsible for the changing taxation needs and demands of a business which has seen significant international growth & increasing business complexity.

Description

Key accountabilities and duties

  • Lead on tax strategy and advise on all key projects and initiatives, partnering with the wider business to advise on new business development opportunities from a tax perspective, utilising tax planning and mitigation opportunities where possible to minimise the Group's effective tax rate.
  • Wide tax oversight across a number of territories including corporate tax, transfer pricing, VAT, income tax and employee mobility.
  • Oversee and embed a clear tax governance process throughout the business, including reporting to the management team in terms of tax compliance and risk management.
  • Oversee and approve tax compliance in key jurisdictions, working closely with external professional advisors and internal finance & operations teams. Ensure group meets is obligations under Corporate Criminal Offence provisions.
  • Lead tax planning and forecasting processes within the Group, including support of quarterly forecasts, annual budgeting and ad-hoc business plans.
  • Work with the business and IT teams to implement appropriate processes and systems to ensure tax compliance throughout the business, including Making Tax Digital.
  • Keep abreast of new legislation and legal decisions and assess their impact on the Group, sharing updates and making recommendations for change as necessary
  • Managing the relationship with HMRC and external tax advisors. Responsible for external tax advisor fee negotiation and cost management.
  • Line management responsibilities, including coaching and development, of a Tax Manager.

Profile

Person Specification:

  • Professional tax or accountancy qualification (ACA / CTA) or experience to a similar level
  • Senior experience of directly managing international tax within a medium sized growth business.
  • Ability to manage projects and, when required, supervise others.
  • Be adaptable and able to meet deadlines on assignments, juggle multiple demands and to work with all types of individuals up to and including the CEO.
