Job Description
The Head of Corporate Accounting will be located at their offices in the centre of Birmingham. This is a key role reporting to and working closely with the Director of Finance. The Head of Corporate Accounting will be an inspiring, energetic and innovative leader who will actively contribute to the development of the Corporate Accounting team. It is a critical role to ensure the University and its subsidiaries operate in a financially effective, efficient and sustainable way.
The post holder needs to have a commercial mind-set and a focus on 'best in case' operational and financial practices whilst managing a team. They will have responsibility for producing the management, statutory and regulatory reporting as well as managing the finance system and ensuring tax compliance. A key element of the role is to be able to champion change and to work collaboratively with colleagues both within and outside the Finance Department to deliver this.
This appointment is central to the continued development of the Finance department. To that affect the University is seeking to identify high calibre and high capability individuals who can contribute and also enjoy a successful career within a high performing finance team.
The Successful Applicant
For this Head of Corporate Accounting opportunity in central Birmingham, successful candidates must have/be:
- Degree educated and a qualified accountant (ACA / ACCA) from a Big Four or top accountancy firm, with a few years post qualification experience
- Experience within a large and complex organisation in either the public or private sector, as well as some private sector experience, is essential
- Experience of leading and developing a team
- Substantial experience of producing annual financial statements, management accounts and managing audits, as well as ideally group/ consolidation experience
- A working knowledge and understanding of tax, in particular VAT
- Experience of taking responsibility and ownership of projects, preferably including a systems upgrade or implementation
- You will possess a resilient, yet highly approachable personality and will combine strong technical skills with good commercial awareness and the drive and ambition to succeed and progress
- Excellent communication and presenting skills. You must have the ability to gain the confidence of and influence staff at all levels within the University
- A strong commitment to customer service and high levels of energy, resilience and self-motivation.
