Client


My client is a mid-tier residential development business who, following the successful partnership with a well-known housing association, is looking to recruit a project accountant to oversee the joint venture development. The role will be responsible for monitoring and reporting the progress of development projects, investigating variances and ensuring income and expenditure is correctly controlled, approved and recorded. 

Role

Duties will include:

  • Production of accurate and timely financial information on a monthly basis - mainly project profit and loss accounts, revenue recognition, cashflow forecasts, reconciliation of project costs with accompanying commentary.
  • Management and control of overall project cashflow.
  • Liaise with the delivery team to ensure robust financial controls to track and identify project costs, their correct allocation and presentation in financial reports. Also ensure that these controls are updated accordingly taking into account current commercial status.
  • Understand and report on actual variances to prior forecast & budget.
  • Production of all Joint Venture entity management and statutory accounts, including engaging with external auditors where necessary.
  • Reviewing and query budget, assessing each item for reasonableness and identifying costs omitted.
  • Production of monthly VAT, CIS and all other appropriate taxation returns on behalf of the Joint Venture.
  • Management and reconciliation of sales income invoicing and receipt processes.
  • Month end procedures including sales accruals / retentions, journals, over / under overhead recovery analysis.
  • Deputise for FD when necessary.
  • Providing regular commentary on project financial status.
  • Identify and improve financial processes to ensure effective information is provided to aid decision making and improve business performance as well as improving financial reporting and control.

Person


You will be a fully qualified accountant with appropriate post qualification experience for a role at this level. Proven track record of operating within a project accounting function, experience operating within the residential development or housing association sector.
In addition you will be a team player with willingness to adapt to changing environments. Self-motivated, articulate and pro-active with good presentation and communication skills. Experience of Sage Line 50 accounting software or similar is advantageous. Excellent Excel skills. Up to date Tax & Financial Standard knowledge relevant to Sector. Experience of both larger companies in sector and also management of company growth.
