The Commercial Finance Manager provides financial and commercial management support for all activities across Damien Hirsts' art and production studios. With a dual reporting line to the Studio Operations & Production Director based at the studio and with the Head of Commercial Finance based in London, the role will ensure that adequate financial and commercial controls are in place for all works.
The Commercial Finance Manager provides financial and commercial management support for all activities across the studios. With a dual reporting line to the Studio Operations & Production Director based at the studio with the Head of Commercial Finance based in London, the role will ensure that adequate financial and commercial controls are in place for all works.
The role will also support the Studio Operations and Production Director to instill the necessary financial and commercial knowledge, skills and behaviours within the Studio Management Team whilst supporting the group finance team in deploying new systems, processes and controls to improve the financial and commercial performance of the business.
AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:
Financial Controls : Supports the Studio and Operations Director with the preparation and ongoing review and reforecasting of the studio budget as well as the underlying financial controls across the studios. This involves drawing together financial forecasts from the production plan, fixed and variable overhead costs and planned capital expenditure. The role will then support the studio team with monthly reporting and variance analysis and follow-up actions with the studio management team to continuously improve cost forecasting, cost allocation and financial accountability across the management team.
Contract Packs : For major suppliers and fabricators with an annual spend of >£100k, the role will be responsible for creating and maintaing 'Contract Packs', summarising the commercial and financial status of each major supplier and updated on a monthly basis. This will involve summarising all commited costs, invoiced costs and paid amounts, including approved and disallowed variations as well as the application of any discounts arising from the contract and monitoring qualitative supplier performance metrics. The role will be required to interface heavily with the London-based finance, procurement & commercial teams as well as leading on face to face meetings with suppliers and fabricators. The role will work closely with other managers to negotiate commercial agreements for fabricators and to benchmark prices with multiple quotations to ensure we can demonstrate that Science is getting value for money.
Supplier Due Diligence : Working closely with the Procurement Manager and Contract Fabrication Manager, the role will carry out commercial and financial due diligence on suppliers and fabricators prior to the award of contracts and will provide information to the senior management team to support procurement decisions.
Supplier Audit : Working closely with the Procurement Manager and Contract Fabrication Manager, the role will carry out supplier audits on critical suppliers to assess contract performance, regulatory compliance and the ongong commercial health and risk profile of our supply chain.
System Development & Coaching : The role will asses the financial and commercial management capabilities of the Studio Management Team and the effectiveness of current management systems. Supporting the Studio Production Director, the role will be responsible for developing new systems and for providing coaching and training of the Studio Management Team to raise the levels of financial and commercial management capability across the studios.
Procurement : The role will support the introduction of a new online Procurement Management system (Proactis) and will become the super-user for that system within the studios, ensuring that relevant staff are adequately trained and processes are being followed.
General Management : The role will be an integral part of the Studio Management Team and may be expected to pick up some general management duties to support the effective running of the studios. This may also include covering for the Director of Studios from time to time.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
A qualified accountant (ACA, CIMA or ACCA), skilled & experienced in financial and commercial management and a good track record of performance.
An experienced project accountant with experience of managing monthly cost and revenue forecasts for a portfolio of projects across a multi-site matrix organisation.
Experience of working within a fast moving project-based environment with a proven track-record in supporting and managing complex projects involving high-value externally sourced fabrication and the ongoing evaluation of earned value. Some formal project management training or qualification would be a bonus.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
Skilled at managing complex data & interrogating & managing data sets to create management information to support decision making.
Fluent in managing and reporting financial data (Sun Accounts experience would be a bonus but not essential) and using purchase order systems and database systems which support the operation.
Skilled at managing personal relationships at all levels of the business and for a wide array of stakeholders.

An ability to maintain a keen eye for detail whilst at the same time, considering the bigger picture across the whole business
