Tax Manager & Financial Accountant – 

International Video Gaming Company

c. £40,000 to 45,000 + Bonus & Benefits

A newly created role in a successful US owned company whose international operations are growing rapidly. The brief is to assist in the preparation of financial and management accounts for the UK and Benelux as well as overseeing indirect and direct tax matters for all the European operations. This opportunity will appeal to a part or fully qualified accountant with sound financial and management accounting experience and an interest in broadening indirect & corporate taxation skills.

The Company

Our client is an award-winning creator and publisher of interactive entertainment for a range of gaming consoles, PC’s, mobile devices and online gaming. The business is US owned and controlled and is now firmly established as a global leader in the games industry. It has been operating in Europe since 2008, initially with sales and marketing offices in the UK followed by the opening of operations in Germany, France, the Netherlands and Australia. In addition, there is a distribution network to meet demand in other countries. With a regular stream of updated games and new releases from studios around the world, the business is becoming increasingly complex and challenging.

The Role

Reporting to the Finance Manager UK and Benelux, you will primarily be responsible for assisting in the monthly close process for the UK and Benelux Business Units. This will include the preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports along with detailed analysis as required by the business units or the US parent. In addition, you will have overall responsibility for the timely and accurate filing of all VAT and Indirect tax returns for the UK and EU jurisdictions and for providing support to the senior finance team on all tax matters and projects. The role also requires you to work closely with budget holders and managers to provide business, strategic and commercial advice. Other responsibilities are to:

  • Assist in preparation of the annual statutory accounts
  • Provide input for the annual budget preparation and variance analysis of actual versus  budget/forecast.
  • Maintain records in accordance with auditing standards.
  • Review the periodic documentation of accruals: PP, returns, stock, etc.
  • Perform other ad hoc accounting activities as required
  • Respond to tax audits as they may arise across Europe
  • Communicate with the US tax team to provide international consolidated tax provision data
  • Approve monthly tax and other journal entries in general ledger
  • Progress and close tax enquiries relating to annual accounts, transfer pricing and other matters
  • Support senior European finance team in developing and delivering the businesses tax strategy
  • Participate in updating UK’s financial policies with particular emphasis on tax related matters
  • Ensure the accuracy of the tax accounting and control information
  • Continuously review of tax and financial control information systems and procedures

The post is based in the London office and may involve the need to travel for short periods across the region.

The Person

We are looking for a part or fully qualified accountant with experience of preparing management and statutory accounts and in working with and supporting operational and commercial teams ideally in an international organisation. Previous involvement in VAT and direct corporate tax accounting is important along with a willingness to keep abreast of changes in tax environments in Europe. Previous experience in media, entertainment or technology businesses is a distinct advantage as is exposure to working in a US owned matrix organisation. Computer literacy is a must and will include experience of working with various accounting systems as well as proven Excel skills. In terms of personal qualities, we are looking for a proactive, self-starter who is commercially astute, able to think strategically and to come up with new ideas. This should be combined with excellent analytical and project management skills and the ability to work both within a team and as an individual.
