My exclusive client based near Chester is currently looking to appoint An Interim Financial Accountant for a 6 month period. Reporting to the Financial Controller and leading a small team, the post-holder will be responsible for ensuring that accounts are appropriately and accurately recorded and that 100% compliance with all legal and audit requirements is achieved. This is an opportunity to join a market leading business and may lead to a more permanent role for the right candidate.

Key accountabilities;

Head of Accounting

  • Manage a small team with responsibility for accurate and timely adherence to all accounting procedures in AP/AR/GL and Payroll in an ERP environment
  • Ensure provision of VAT / Intrastat returns are filed as required
  • Interpret and define application of accounting standards to ensure full compliance
  • Act as internal auditor to ensure that all processes that create financial transactions are compliant to company policy.
  • Prepare management accounts pack (P&L / Bal sheet / Funds flow / Funder report)
  • Collate and ensure provision of weekly AR/AP flash reports
  • Ensure full reconciliation procedures with other areas of the business are in place to ensure the ERP system is recognised as the definitive financial record of the business.
  • Act as deputy to FC for PO authorisation process

Lead contact in financial audits

  • Prepare year-end audit plan and liaise with auditors to ensure all necessary information is collated and queries are resolved to deliver an efficient process.
  • Act as the lead contact in all funder, HMRC and local government audits and in an oversight role for HMRC, VAT, Payroll and Pension.

Tax compliance

  • Responsible for ensuring tax compliance and calculation in every respect other than VAT / PAYE that are devolved within the team.
  • Provision of tax pack for audit and tax submission purposes.

Contribute to the Accounts Business forecasting

  • Ensure headcount and labour budgets and forecasts are fully supported
  • Collate forecasts on one-off costs and funding.


Bank facility control and reporting

  • Act as the point of contact for funding partners
  • Control transactions with each funding partner and the provision of reports as required.
  • Prepare rolling 13 week cash-flow forecast
  • Control and forecast all funding costs
  • Monitor the company exchange position and propose contingency measures


Candidates will ideally be ICAEW / ACCA qualified with Advanced Level Excel. The successful candidate will have worked in a similar role previously and must have strong technical accounting and management experience. You will need to be available to start work imminently.
