As Financial Manager for this leading data communication business, you will carry out key month end tasks and driving the monthly reporting and control processes. You will prepare our UK Group VAT return and assist in the adhoc filings for International entities. You will support adhoc projects, bringing your experience and professional expertise to ensure the accounting is appropriate. You will proactively seek to identify control deficiencies and drive implantation of solutions

What will you be doing:

  • Month EndLead the overall month end process to ensure deadlines are met and the accounts are prepared to a high standard.
  • Prepare payroll journal from third party payroll providers, including the preparation of PSA and P11D accruals, posting of journals and associated reconciliations.
  • Oversee and ensure the completion by you and your direct report of a large suite of balance sheet reconciliations to an auditable standard and perform overall review of balance sheet.
  • Perform overall review of balance sheet for relevant business units ensuring possible risks and opportunities are suitably documented and communicated.
  • Manage one direct report.
  • Recruit, appraise and provide coaching and support for this individual, including review and taking ownership for all their deliverables.
  • Prepare the UK group and individual VAT returns on time each quarter, and review with the Financial Controller.
  • Ensure that the National Statistics, Euro Sales list, Intrastats, overseas VAT returns (including US, Sweden, Switzerland) are prepared and filed with relevant authorities on time with suitable auditable documentation.
  • Work with the tax manager to prepare required information for international branch compliance.
  • Drive improved balance sheet control to raise the quality of reconciliations, simplify the process, and embed accountability with appropriate members of the finance team and maintain accounting policy manual and procedures.
  • Work with team to ensure visibility and compliance of these procedures.
  • Continually challenge the way we do things - look for improvements to processes, increasing efficiencies and raise the awareness of potential challenges as they are identified.
  • Proactively seek to identify control deficiencies and drive implantation of solutions.
  • Provide internal and external audit assistance.

What we would like you to have:

  • Proven experience in a financial accountant role
  • Strong inter-personal skills and the ability to partner and influence.
  • Degree educated qualified accountant or equivalent.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to work with people across multiple timezone and cultures.
  • Highly proficient in Excel Experience of a mainstream accounting package (ideally Peoplesoft) and Hyperion an advantage
