Project Finance permanent job, based near Dumfries £42000-£55000 per annum


A rare an exciting opportunity has arisen with a global not for profit organisation based on the outskirts of Dumfries. Due to recent growth, this newly created position will act as the financial lead for a portfolio of programmes, supporting regional and programme managers in the provision of quality financial information, support and advice.

Reporting to the Financial Controller, keys responsibilities of this role include:

  • Support the formulation and monitoring of budgets and forecasts
  • Support the development and review of project budgets/contract pricing, including the drafting of associated budget narratives and key assumptions.
  • Assist in the development of systems, tools and processes to ensure budgeting and forecasting process operates efficiently and effectively.
  • Assist with implementation of new budget and planning system
  • Support the production and verification of financial donor reports for the portfolio, monitoring and reporting on project cash flows
  • Prepare headline financial reviews (actual and forecast) of programme portfolio, including KPI's, trends, variance analysis etc.
  • Monitor and review the cost allocation/leasing of owned assets to grants/contracts.
  • Support the review, reconciliation and upload of country cashbooks into the accounting system (Sage 200).
  • Assist in the identification and monitoring of compliance against overseas statutory regulations, including company registration, labour law, financial reporting and taxation.
  • Visit programmes to provide financial support, guidance and training to both financial and non-financial personnel.
  • Support the production of transactional reports/documentation for project audits, liaising with the external auditors/country teams as appropriate.
  • Support the month end closure of accounts, including the production of supporting schedules, reconciliations, posting of journal entries.


What we are looking for in the successful candidate:

  • Qualified CCAB Accountant and/ or significant relevant experience
  • Financial modelling skills in a project or contracting environment
  • Project management/accounting experience is essential
  • Ability to interrogate complex financial data
  • Flexibility to travel to oversees programmes, 3-4 weeks per year
  • Excellent communicator, able to challenge decisions
  • Demonstrable experience in working with both financial and non-financial managers
  • Ability to balance priorities with tact and diplomacy
  • Prepared to both support and challenge experienced operational managers
  • Foreign currency experience is beneficial
